PCE inflation report for August 2026 came in below expectations at 3.4 percent annually

The Bureau of Economic Analysis reported on September 30, 2026 that the PCE price index rose 0.3 percent in August and 3.4 percent year-over-year, below Wall Street expectations. Core PCE, excluding food and energy, was 3.0 percent annually. Consumer spending rose 0.9 percent or 0.6 percent adjusted for inflation, while the personal saving rate fell to 4.1 percent. The Fed raised interest rates in mid-September 2026 for the first time in three years.
