Ken Griffin donates $3 billion to Carnegie Mellon University for Miami campus
Citadel founder and CEO Ken Griffin announced a $3 billion donation to Carnegie Mellon University on September 30, 2026, the largest individual gift to higher education in U.S. history. The donation includes $2 billion for a new 35-acre campus in Miami's Wynwood neighborhood and $1 billion for CMU's Pittsburgh campus, with construction slated to begin in 2027 and the Miami campus aiming to enroll its first students in 2028. The Miami campus will focus on societal challenge areas including human health, national security, energy and climate resilience, and advanced manufacturing.
