China announces mortgage interest subsidies and monetary policy adjustments
China will provide a 1-percentage-point subsidy on interest rates for eligible first-home mortgages starting October 1, 2026, targeting loans under 1 million yuan for apartments under 120 square meters valued below 1.5 million yuan. The policy will run for one year, with individual loans eligible for up to five years. The PBOC also cut its pledged supplementary lending rate by 0.25 percentage points to 1.5% and expanded relending quotas for technology, equipment upgrades, agriculture, and small businesses.
