King Mohammed VI appointed Fatima Zahra El Mansouri as Morocco's first female prime minister after her Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) won the most seats in the September 23, 2026 parliamentary elections with 97 seats. PAM must form a coalition to reach the 198 seats needed for an absolute majority in the 395-member parliament. The Islamist Justice and Development Party (PJD) won 54 seats and its leader Abdelilah Benkirane said the party would stay in opposition.
