Pope Leo addresses sexual abuse during visit to Lourdes, France
Pope Leo XIV met with French bishops and celebrated Mass at the Shrine of Lourdes on the third day of his four-day visit to France. He urged bishops to maintain vigilance against the "scourge" of sexual abuse and was scheduled to meet privately with seven abuse survivors. A 2021 French inquiry found approximately 330,000 children were abused by Catholic clergy or lay members between 1950 and 2020.
