Senate rejects resolution to end U.S. war in Iran in 49-50 vote
The U.S. Senate voted 49-50 on September 24, 2026 to defeat a Democratic-led war powers resolution that would have directed President Trump to remove U.S. forces from hostilities with Iran. Four Republicans, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rand Paul, and Thom Tillis, joined Democrats in support, while Sen. John Fetterman was the sole Democrat to oppose. The resolution previously passed the House in July but was a non-binding concurrent resolution that would not have gone to the president's desk.
