Advocacy group The Parenthood released analysis by advisory firm Connell Griffin showing the annual cost of raising children in Australia has reached at least $17,800 per child, with costs rising 134% over two decades while household income grew only 102%. CEO Georgie Dent addressed the National Press Club calling for 52 weeks of paid parental leave and universal childcare. The report follows the intergenerational report's projection that Australia's fertility rate will decline to 1.34 by 2065-66.
