Iran attacks merchant ships in Strait of Hormuz amid US-Israel war
Between March 10-12, 2026, multiple merchant vessels were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf waters, including the Thai-flagged Mayuree Naree, two fuel tankers in Iraqi waters (Safesea Vishnu and Zefyros), and several other ships. At least one crew member was killed and others went missing. The US military destroyed 16 Iranian mine-laying vessels near the strait, while shipping through the waterway, carrying about one-fifth of global oil supply, came to a near-standstill following the start of US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
