Supreme Court unanimously rules Cox Communications not liable for customers' copyright infringement in lawsuit by record labels

The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that internet service provider Cox Communications cannot be held liable for copyright violations committed by its customers who illegally downloaded music. The decision reversed lower court rulings in a lawsuit led by Sony Music Entertainment and other record labels. Justice Clarence Thomas wrote that Cox did not induce infringement or provide services tailored to infringement.
