Former President Barack Obama announced on September 16, 2026 that the family's Portuguese Water Dog, Sunny, died on September 15 at age 13. The Obamas acquired Sunny in 2013 during Obama's second term. Sunny was the family's second Portuguese Water Dog; the first, Bo, died in 2021.
