Saudi-led coalition says it intercepted Houthi drone near Mecca
On September 15-16, 2026, the Saudi-led military coalition announced its air defenses destroyed a Houthi drone south of Mecca before it entered prohibited airspace over the holy city. The Houthis denied targeting Mecca, calling the claim a lie. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemned the alleged attack, and the coalition warned that holy site security was a red line.
