Inquiry blames Countess of Chester Hospital for failures to protect babies from Lucy Letby

Justice Kathryn Thirlwall's public inquiry found that the Countess of Chester Hospital had a complete failure at all levels to protect newborns, and that some babies could have been saved if staff had acted sooner. The inquiry made 17 recommendations including webcams on incubators and CCTV over insulin refrigerators. Letby was convicted in 2023 of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others, and her defense team continues to challenge the evidence via the Criminal Cases Review Commission.
