A fire broke out on the cargo ship Ocean Melody while it was docked for repairs at the Beihai Shipbuilding Co. shipyard in Qingdao, China, on September 10, 2026. Of the 42 people on board, at least 25 were killed, 12 were safely evacuated, and 5 were injured and hospitalized. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
