Federal appeals court hears arguments over mifepristone prescribing rules in Louisiana case

A three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans is hearing arguments in a case brought by Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill and another plaintiff seeking to tighten prescribing rules for mifepristone, a drug used in medication abortion. The case is one of several legal efforts by abortion opponents to restrict providers in states where abortion is legal from sending abortion pills into states where it is banned. The Supreme Court previously blocked changes to the prescribing rules and unanimously rejected an earlier challenge in 2024 on standing grounds.
