Hafidh Ameir Hassan, the husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, died on September 7, 2026, at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar while receiving treatment for a heart condition. Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi announced the death and said funeral arrangements were underway in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar. Ameir married Samia in 1978 and became Tanzania's first First Gentleman when she took office in 2021.
