US military branches including the Air Force, Army, and Special Operations Command have disabled mobile advertising identifiers on phones and computers. The move follows reports that commercially available location data sold by data brokers was used to target American forces in the Middle East. Senators Ron Wyden and Pat Harrigan sent a letter to the Pentagon requesting an investigation into whether the military adequately countered risks from the location data trade.
