US weekly unemployment claims rise to 206,000 for the week ending late August 2026
The Labor Department reported Thursday that initial unemployment claims rose to 206,000 last week, up from a revised 204,000 the prior week. The four-week average of claims rose modestly to 207,250. Claims remain within the historically low range of 200,000 to 230,000 that has persisted over the past year.
