A dark web service called Nexus was found advertising digital scans of more than 153 million American and Canadian drivers' licenses on a Russian cybercrime forum. Cybersecurity journalist Brian Krebs discovered the trove after being offered his own license as a free sample, and found records belonging to high-profile individuals including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The FBI confirmed on September 3, 2026 that it is investigating the incident.
