Smithsonian places National Museum of the American Latino in existing Arts and Industries Building
The Smithsonian Institution's Board of Regents voted on September 1, 2026 to house the National Museum of the American Latino in the existing Arts and Industries Building on the National Mall rather than constructing a new building. Congress created the museum in 2020 but it has lacked a permanent home. Using an existing building allows the Smithsonian to bypass congressional approval for new construction.
