US Treasury proposes sanctions on Banque Misr UAE branches for Iran-linked transactions

The US Treasury's FinCEN proposed a rule to revoke Banque Misr's UAE branches' correspondent banking access to US financial institutions, accusing the bank of processing approximately $1.8 billion for companies linked to Iranian shadow banking networks between January 2024 and June 2026. Banque Misr said it is reviewing the notice, and the UAE central bank launched an urgent examination. The sanctions target only the UAE branches and are expected to take effect after a 30-day public comment period.
