Maryland judge blocks Democratic-backed redistricting amendment from November ballot
Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Judge Robert Thompson ruled on August 26, 2026 that a Maryland constitutional amendment aimed at enabling congressional redistricting cannot appear on the November 3, 2026 ballot. Thompson found the legislature missed its own July 1 deadline for ballot questions, used misleading ballot language, and violated the state constitution's single-subject requirement. The Maryland State Board of Elections appealed the ruling to the Maryland Supreme Court.
