US Justice Department exposes Chinese state-sponsored hacking campaign targeting federal agencies and critical infrastructure
The US Justice Department and FBI announced on August 26, 2026 the seizure of three internet domains tied to two hacking platforms, QScan and QTRouter, operated by a Chinese state-sponsored group called QTFY through Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology Company. The group allegedly targeted US federal agencies including NASA, the Federal Reserve, the Senate, and the departments of Justice, Energy, and HHS, as well as hospitals, power companies, and defense contractors, with activity dating to 2018. On August 29, 2026, the DOJ revised its initial press release to clarify that some agencies were targeted but not successfully breached, correcting an earlier statement that described all named agencies as victims.
