Meta settles with US states over teen social media harm claims
Meta agreed to pay up to $18 billion and implement child-safety changes to Facebook and Instagram to settle a multistate lawsuit alleging the company designed addictive products that harmed youth mental health. The settlement includes a two-hour daily time limit for teens, nighttime usage blocks, and school-hour notification restrictions. Meta did not admit wrongdoing and called on competitors TikTok and YouTube to adopt similar protections.
