DR Congo launches Ebola vaccination campaign amid fastest-growing outbreak in history

The Democratic Republic of Congo began vaccinating front-line health workers with Merck's Ervebo vaccine, which is approved for the Zaire Ebola strain but unproven against the Bundibugyo strain causing the current outbreak. The WHO allocated 70,000 doses, with 20,000 earmarked for a Phase 3 clinical trial to test efficacy against Bundibugyo and 50,000 for front-line workers. The outbreak has spread across six provinces with over 5,700 cases and 2,700 deaths, and the WHO warns it is growing exponentially.
