Tesla recalls nearly 3 million vehicles in China over door handle safety risks

Tesla is recalling approximately 2.98 million vehicles in China, including Model 3, Y, S, and X, over safety risks related to hidden door handles that could trap occupants during emergencies. Other Chinese carmakers including Xiaomi, Leapmotor, Geely, and XPeng are also recalling vehicles, bringing the total to over 4 million. China announced a ban on hidden door handles starting January 1, 2027, requiring mechanical releases on both inside and outside of doors.
