Japan hanged Sunao Takami, 58, who was convicted of setting fire to a pachinko parlor in Osaka in 2009, killing five people and injuring ten others. The execution was the first under Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's government and the first in Japan in over a year. Justice Minister Hiroshi Hiraguchi ordered the execution after what he described as careful and thorough consideration.
