Israel advances E1 West Bank settlement plan, drawing international condemnation

Israel's Housing Ministry issued tenders for over 1,200 housing units in the E1 area of the occupied West Bank, connecting East Jerusalem to the Ma'ale Adumim settlement. Multiple groups of countries including France, Germany, the UK, Italy, Jordan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and others condemned the plan, warning it would sever Palestinian territorial contiguity and undermine a two-state solution. Far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich praised the plan's advancement, while Western governments threatened sanctions and warned companies against bidding.

Arab and European outlets frame E1 as illegal annexation and destruction of the two-state solution; Israeli outlets foreground international condemnation and mayor's praise while treating illegality as a matter of dispute.
