Two Milligan University sophomore cyclists, Brayden Rogers and Haylan Engdahl, were killed on August 19, 2026, when a car struck their team during a training ride on U.S. Route 19 in Carter County, Tennessee. The driver, 69-year-old John Benfield of Newland, North Carolina, was charged with vehicular homicide and aggravated assault. Several other cyclists were injured, with four reported in critical condition.
