Swiss tourist sentenced to one year in prison for insulting Bali's Day of Silence

A 26-year-old Swiss man, Luzian Andrin Zgraggen, was sentenced to one year in prison by a Denpasar court for posting Instagram videos mocking Bali's sacred Hindu holiday of Nyepi. He had been informed of the Day of Silence restrictions by hotel staff but defied them anyway, walking to a beach and calling the tradition "crazy" with an expletive. He was arrested in March after the videos sparked public outrage.
