ICE detained the captain of a boat that capsized in New York Harbor, killing a mother and infant.
Manuel Ernesto Hernandez-Umana, a 46-year-old El Salvador national, was arrested by ICE after a boat he was piloting capsized near the Statue of Liberty on August 8, killing Sara Sanchez, 27, and her 5-month-old daughter Antonella Garcia. Hernandez-Umana faces federal charges of misconduct and neglect of a ship officer resulting in death, as well as state reckless endangerment charges. He had been released on a $50,000 bond on August 10 before ICE took him into custody.
