Sen. John Cornyn threatened to block Trump ambassador nominees over PEPFAR funding, then backed down after receiving assurances from the State Department.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) threatened to block the Senate Foreign Relations Committee votes on Kari Lake's nomination as ambassador to Jamaica and Doug Mastriano's nomination as ambassador to Slovakia unless the Trump administration released PEPFAR funds. Cornyn said approximately $1.3 billion was ready to be distributed immediately. After receiving spending plans and commitments from the State Department, Cornyn allowed the nominations to advance out of committee on Wednesday.
