Trump downplays China election interference claims after primetime speech accusing Beijing of largest data breach in history
Days after delivering a primetime address accusing China of obtaining over 200 million US voter records in what he called the largest compromise of election data in history, President Trump told reporters on Tuesday that the alleged interference took place a long time ago and that the US does similar things to China. Trump previewed no punishment and said officials would discuss the matter with Beijing, as planning continued for a September state visit by President Xi Jinping. Secretary of State Rubio was also set to meet with a Chinese counterpart on the sidelines of ASEAN meetings in the Philippines.
