The Justice Department opens a compliance review into Harvard University's China-based financial aid programs.
The DOJ's Civil Rights Division announced Monday it is reviewing whether Harvard's China-based financial aid programs discriminate against American students by restricting scholarships to foreign nationals. The investigation was triggered by Harvard's foreign funding disclosures, which show $630 million from Chinese sources and $4.5 billion in total foreign funding. Harvard denied wrongdoing, saying it complies with Title VI, while China's embassy said academic cooperation should not be disrupted for political purposes.
