Ismael Zambada García, the 76-year-old co-founder of the Sinaloa cartel, was sentenced to life in prison by US District Judge Brian Cogan in Brooklyn. Zambada pleaded guilty in August 2025 to racketeering and continuing criminal enterprise charges, admitting to trafficking millions of kilograms of cocaine and other drugs, and agreed to a $15 billion forfeiture.
