A commemorative plaque honoring Arsene et Angele Richard and their daughter Marcelle, recognized as Righteous Among the Nations for saving 13-year-old Edmond Rajchman during the 1942 Vel d'Hiv Roundup, was broken in half in central Paris. French officials including Paris Mayor Emmanuel Gregoire and deputy defense minister Alice Rufo condemned the vandalism and vowed to restore the memorial. The incident occurred ahead of the annual commemoration of the Vel d'Hiv Roundup, in which 13,152 Jews were arrested by French police.
