A U.S. citizen working for the Christian aid group Samaritan's Purse tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola in the DRC in July 2026. The patient was evacuated to Frankfurt University Hospital in Germany for treatment. This was the second American to contract Ebola during the ongoing DRC outbreak, which has recorded over 1,900 cases and 700 deaths.
