CDC reports U.S. death rate reached record low in 2025.

Provisional CDC data shows the U.S. age-adjusted death rate fell to 689.2 per 100,000 in 2025, a 4.6% decrease from 2024 and the lowest on record. The decline was driven largely by a continued drop in fatal drug overdoses, which fell approximately 14% for the third consecutive year. Heart disease and cancer remained the leading causes of death.
