The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that federal election-day statutes do not prohibit states from counting mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day but received afterward. Justice Amy Coney Barrett wrote the majority opinion, joined by Chief Justice Roberts and the three liberal justices. The decision upholds Mississippi's five-day grace period and similar laws in over a dozen states.
