Netanyahu declares IDF will remain in southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is disarmed
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated during visits and public appearances in late June 2026 that Israeli forces would remain in southern Lebanon as long as Hezbollah maintains an armed presence. His remarks followed a framework agreement signed the prior week committing Lebanon to disarmament of non-state armed groups in exchange for a progressive Israeli withdrawal. Netanyahu also extended the declaration of indefinite military presence to Syria and Gaza.
