Scientists discover whale graveyard in southeastern Indian Ocean dating back five million years.
Researchers from China, Italy, and New Zealand discovered a whale graveyard approximately 1,200km long in the Diamantina fracture zone in the southeastern Indian Ocean. The site, up to 7km deep, contains fossils dating back 5.3 million years and active whale falls teeming with organisms potentially new to science. The findings were published in the journal Nature.
