Iranian-French author and filmmaker Marjane Satrapi died at age 56, according to a statement from the French presidency on Thursday. She was best known for Persepolis, an autobiographical graphic novel and animated film about her childhood during and after the Iranian Revolution. Her family said she "died of sadness" following the death of her husband Mattias Ripa in April 2025.
