U.S. military fires missile at merchant ship attempting to breach Iranian port blockade.
U.S. Central Command reported that U.S. forces stopped the Gambia-flagged cargo ship Lian Star by firing a missile into its engine room after it ignored more than 20 warnings. The ship remained adrift in the Gulf of Oman and was not boarded. This marks the sixth ship the U.S. military has stopped while attempting to breach the blockade.
